Our student volunteer army project came to a conclusion today when we dropped off our care packages to the Cancer Society. They will be taken to the lodge in Hamilton this week. Below are some of the reflections from members of Room 5.
SVA community, we have done many things after joining your group. Fundraising, learning stuff you do, writing letters to try and persuade companies in donating to us with our work, and our most important task we have done, making care packages to those in the Ronald McDonald house and those in the cancer society.
Fundraising was very easy for a big job to do, baking and cooking was our effortless solution to that! We had to bring a some sort of baked goods so that we can sell and guess what! We had raised over $300.
If you are wondering what our letters come out like here is a little example here:
Dear Warehouse people,
We are fondly wishing that you may donate any simple product to help make us a marvelous care package help those in thus need. We come from a army of student volunteers and we wish to make the land filled with beauty. And to our dear Warehouse people we will be very much glad you could accept this opportunity of a lifetime
From whoever.
Before all this we thought, planed and decided that we were going to craft care packages for the ronald mc house and the cancer society too. From the letters we wrote we got tons of gifts like books, toys, money from the companies that sponsored . From the money we had acquired selling the baked goods, was used for buying items from the warehouse so that we could have items to put in the care packages.
Our dear care packages are now sent toward the Ronald McDonald house and the cancer society. This project was a massive success! By Arron
This term for our student volunteer army project we made care packages for people in need. But well before this, we did the technical side of it. After ages of planning we came up with the ideal; We gave out the jobs, like platoon leader or caterer; Then started our research. “What shall we put in the care packs?” We thought. Many ideas came straight out of our minds and onto a particular piece of paper. Then, we wrote letters to local businesses, which was very successful. We got donated several items such as…
Bunnings lego sets
McLeods books
Donated blankets
A $200 warehouse voucher!
And lots more! So many kind businesses helped out a lot, and we are ever so grateful.
So later on in the term we went on a trip to the warehouse and bought the items for our care packs. We bought things such as books, pens, toys, pencils, and much more things!
The lady who owns Ronald McDonald house came in to tell us a bit about the charity and then she came and took half of our care packs, and a few people are delivering our care packages to the daffodil cancer society! So overall our project was a big success! By Alana
few weeks ago we contributed to the SVA. Our project for the SVA is giving away care packages for the cancer patients and the Ronald McDonald House. But first, at the very very beginning we had a group discussion and planning on what we should do to contribute to the SVA. Charlotte’s idea was to do a bake stall, the class agreed. We set up a bake stall to raise enough money for our care packages. We raised about $300, with the $300 we went on a class shopping trip to the WareHouse, but before that we planned on making packages with shoe boxes and decorating them.
What we did with the Ronald McDonald House packages, we gave them to Mrs. Parry, The Ronald McDonald House was opened in 2009. Some of us had to help her bring the packages to the car then she’ll drop them off to the RMH.
When we had given Mrs. Parry the packages a few days later she wrote a “Thank you letter” to our class on how we supported the RMH and gave gifts to lighten up their day.
We even made letters to put in the packages for them to feel special. Our SVA had some values included, our values we did for this term were creativity, integrity, kindness and community. During the WareHouse we bought a couple stuff for the packages. We had $37.50 to spend in each group. But we just didn’t go to WareHouse, we even sent letters to other places to ask for donations for our care packages, and “Thank you” letters for the 4 parents who guided us through our shopping trip and sent letters to the shops who donated some stuff. Our project was a wonderful success, it was included with Maths, R.E, writing, reading and P.E. The last packages would be the care packages to the cancer society that would be delivered this week. This term for our project we have been in the student volunteer army. We have been very successful in our journey. First we figured out what we would be doing to help others in need, we chose care packages as the thing we would be making. We wrote to local businesses to ask for sponsorship, and people went into those businesses to give them the letters. We also held a bake sale and raised approximately 300 dollars. We reached out to Ronald McDonald house to ask if we could give them the care packages but they sadly didn't respond so we reached out to the cancer society to ask them if they would like the care packages and they responded. Then the warehouse kindly donated 200 dollars. We got all the stuff from the warehouse and loaded them into the care packages. We finally heard back from Ronald McDonald house so we gave half the care packages to Ronald McDonald house and the other half to cancer society. It really feels good to have completed the whole project. It feels so nice knowing that other people are happier than before with these care packages.
